Preseason first-team All-ACC selection PJ Hall led the way for the Clemson Tigers with 20 points, five rebounds and two assists as they took down the visiting Winthrop Eagles 78-56.

Ian Schieffelin, RJ Godfrey and Chase Hunter joined Hall as the only members of Brad Brownell’s team to eclipse double digits. Senior guard Alex Hemenway just missed the cut with nine points of his own, all of which came from behind the three-point line.

Senior guard Kasen Harrison did the heavy lifting for the Eagles offensively, dropping in both of his three-point attempts en route to a team-leading 15-point performance. Junior forward KJ Doucet’s 12-point output marked the only other Eagle to reach double digits.

Senior center Alex Timmerman put together a strong showing as well for the Eagles, racking up six points, seven rebounds and an assist.

Monday’s win marks the fourth-season opening victory in a row for the Tigers, while the Eagles have now lost back-to-back openers.

Both teams will be back in action later this week as Winthrop hosts Division III foe Brevard College and Clemson travels to take on UAB in the Asheville Championship.
