The Philadelphia Phillies traded left-hander Bailey Falter to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday in exchange for shortstop Rodolfo Castro.
Falter, 26, is 0-7 with a 5.13 ERA across eight appearances (seven starts) this season. He has not pitched in the major leagues since May 15, when he allowed six unearned runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of a loss to the San Francisco Giants.
Since then, Falter has spent time with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Single-A Clearwater.
Castro, 24, hit .228 with six homers and 22 RBIs in 78 games with the Pirates this season. He was also playing in the minors after getting optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on July 16.
Philadelphia also traded for right-hander Michael Lorenzen earlier Tuesday, sending minor league second baseman Hao-Yu Lee to the Detroit Tigers in the deal.
