A new report has revealed that the Philadelphia 76ers medical staff may have made a huge mistake and let young star Tyrese Maxey return to action with a concussion.

Despite being without reigning MVP Joel Embiid for over a month, the Philadelphia 76ers have remained in the top five of the Eastern Conference NBA standings. While it has been a team effort and a great coaching job from Nick Nurse, Tyrese Maxey has been a massive part of why they have not fallen down the standings.

However, the Sixers may now be in danger of being without both of their top players for some time. On Sunday, Maxey slipped while attempting a spin move on Dallas Mavericks forward Derrick Jones Jr. When he crashed to the floor the back of his banged up against Jones Jr.’s shin, and the first-time All-Star laid on the floor clutching his head for a while after.

He was examined by the Philadelphia 76ers medical staff after the fall and was cleared to return to the game they eventually won 120-116. Doctors reassessed Maxey after and declared him symptom-free. Especially after he played 39 minutes and scored 24 points in the victory.

However, they may have missed something in their examinations. On Tuesday, Philadelphia Inquirer Sixers insider Keith Pompey reported that Tyrese Maxey has now been ruled out of their game tonight on the road versus the Brooklyn Nets to receive “further evaluation after experiencing concussion-like symptoms within the last 24 hours.”

It is worrisome that he has concussion symptoms two days after hitting his head and after he was given a pair of exams by the medical staff that did not pick up on a possible head injury. With brain injury recovery being difficult to predict it is now unclear when Maxey will return to action for the Philadelphia 76ers.
