The San Diego Padres placed reliever Craig Stammen on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder on Saturday and recalled fellow right-hander Dinelson Lamet from Triple-A El Paso.

The move involving Stammen is retroactive to July 6.

The 38-year-old Stammen is 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 27 appearances this season. He is in his sixth season with the Padres and 13th in the majors.

Stammen pitched for the Washington Nationals from 2009-15 and underwent forearm surgery during his final season with the club. He spent the 2016 season in the minors with Cleveland’s organization before signing with the Padres following the season.

Overall, Stammen is 55-43 with a 3.61 ERA in 556 career appearances (42 starts).

Lamet was demoted by the Padres in mid-May after posting a high 9.72 ERA in 10 relief outings. He has a 2.16 ERA in 15 appearances between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.

Lamet, 29, was a major force for the Padres in 2020 when he finished fourth in National League Cy Young balloting. He was 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 12 starts and struck out 93 in just 69 innings.

But he was bothered by arm injuries in 2021 and hasn’t displayed the same form. Overall, Lamet is 15-19 with a 4.01 ERA in 79 appearances (56 starts) in five big league campaigns.
