Fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes had to stomach an offense that ranked 45th in scoring in 2023 after ranking second and first in college football in 2022 and 2021. While C.J. Stroud graduated to the NFL, it was also clear that the Buckeyes’ scoring attack didn’t have the same punch.

After their 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, it became clear that the Buckeyes planned to make big changes to their offensive coaching staff. One of the big changes involved finding a different offensive coordinator to take over for Brian Hartline.

On Thursday, Ryan Day found his new coordinator.

While Ryan Day typically calls the plays for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he’s been open to giving up those duties. No matter what, even Coach Day still needs more help leading a roster filled with talented recruits. According to college football insider Pete Thamel, the Buckeyes are “set to hire” Bill O’Brien to fill the offensive coordinator and QB coach role at Ohio State.

O’Brien most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots after previously serving in the same role with the Alabama Crimson Tide under Nick Saban. This will be the 11th season O’Brien acts as either a college football or NFL team’s offensive coordinator plus QB coach. However, he also brings nine years of head coaching experience to Day’s staff, giving the Buckeyes another coach who’s seen it all.
