Houston guard Marcus Sasser, the Cougars’ leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season with a toe injury.

Sasser, a junior averaging 17.7 points per game, made the announcement Friday on Instagram.

“Year didn’t end how I imagined, but I’ll be back better and stronger,” Sasser posted.

Sasser also averaged 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals in 12 games this season for No. 13 Houston (11-2).

He averaged 13.7 points per game last season as the Cougars reached the Final Four and finished 28-4.

Sasser’s loss is the second major blow to the Cougars’ lineup this week. The school announced Wednesday that sophomore guard Tramon Mark (10.5 points per game) will miss the rest of the season after shoulder surgery.

Houston opens American Athletic Conference play at home Tuesday against Cincinnati.
