NFL suspends former Browns bust Justin Gilbert for a year

By Vincent Frank

A former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, Justin Gilbert never panned out with his original team. He lasted two full seasons before being dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers this past September. Gilbert then went on to appear in 12 games with Pittsburgh in 2016 before being waived by that team.

It now looks like Gilbert will have to sit out the entire 2017 season. The NFL reportedly suspended the former top-10 pick for a year for an unknown violation of league rules.

Outside of his on-field struggles in Cleveland, Gilbert was seen as a malcontent within the organization during his two seasons. It’s not yet known what prompted this suspension, but we’re sure to find out a lot more here soon.

Pending appeal, it’s highly unlikely that Gilbert will find himself on a roster this upcoming season. In 35 career games (three starts), the Oklahoma State product has recorded 34 tackles with just one interception.
