NFL bans controversial Philadelphia Eagles security guard Dom DiSandro from sideline against Dallas Cowboys

When the Philadelphia Eagles travel to play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, they will be without one of the key members of their security. The NFL announced on Saturday that Eagles chief of security, Dom DiSandro, has been banned from the sidelines of Sunday’s upcoming matchup following an altercation in last week’s game.

DiSandro, who joined the franchise in 1999, was ejected on Nov. 26 after he made contact with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The sideline scuffle started when Greenlaw tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith after the whistle to draw a 15-yard late hit penalty. The situation escalated when Greenlaw was tossed after a video showed the 229-pound linebacker angrily touching DiSandro’s face on the Eagles’ sidelines.

Although he won’t be on the field versus the Cowboys, DeSandro can still perform his routine duties at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Greenlaw said he and DiSandro traded apologies through mutual friends.

“We just exchanged a formal apology just between me and [Niners general manager John Lynch] and some of the same people that we do know that in the building and stuff like that,” Greenlaw said via ESPN. “He seemed like a genuine guy. Seemed like a guy that everybody loved in the building. So, I hate that, honestly. I really hate that it even escalated and went to that.”

As a result of the altercation, the NFL sent a league-wide memo on Wednesday reminding teams to “please ensure that all members of your game-day staff understand that their role does not extend to being involved with game-day altercations and that they must refrain from such involvement.”
