New York Mets star reportedly posted a 30-30 season despite dealing with serious injury all year

New York Mets star Francisco Lindor had his best season yet as a member of the team in 2023, and he reportedly did so with a notable injury.

For most New York Mets fans, the 2023 MLB season was one to forget. Despite having the largest payroll in league history, the team was a major letdown this year. Their start to their campaign was so disappointing that the organization actually chose to wave the white flag and became sellers at this year’s trade deadline.

However, despite the frustrations supporters of the team endured this year, there still were some bright spots. Free agent pitcher Kodai Senga had a stellar debut season and earned All-Star honors. Slugger Pete Alonso nearly hit 50 home runs, and shortstop Francisco Lindor achieved the rare feat of hitting over 30 homers and stealing over 30 bases in 2023.

Lindor’s season looks all the more impressive now after a surprise revelation on Wednesday. Earlier today, the team revealed that he underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow.

Following the news, SNY MLB insider Andy Martino reported that “Lindor first felt the effects of the bone spur in his right elbow during spring training. The discomfort lingered through the season, but he did not want to make it public or stop playing.”

For a professional athlete, such an injury can be pretty frustrating. Bone spurs in the elbow can severely hamper mobility and in some instances not allow a person to fully extend their arm. And for Lindor, the issue was in his throwing arm and he still was able to be productive at one of the toughest defensive positions on the field.

Francisco Lindor is expected to be ready for spring training in 2024.
