The New York Knicks have been mentioned heavily in NBA trade rumors even after acquiring O.G. Anunoby. With the assets to swing another trade, it appears one Knicks’ trade candidate is generating significant interest ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

After landing Anunoby, New York has turned its focus to using its depth and draft capital to acquire another key contributor for the playoff push. The Knicks’ front office has been active in recent eeks, engaging in initial dialogue with teams around the league.

While Evan Fournier is one possible Knicks trade candidate, there’s another that is generating far more interest. With several sellers emerging ahead of the NBA trade deadline, New York appears well-positioned to flip one of its young players for win-now help.

According to Ian Negley of SNY, Quentin Drimes is drawing trade interest from the Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks. In addition, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, the Dallas Mavericks are also interested in acquiring Grimes.

  • Quentin Grimes stats: 6.8 PPG, 2.2 APG, 1.8 RPG, 38.7% FG, 37.1% 3PT

Grimes, the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has fallen out of favor in New York. The 6-foot-5 guard was one of the Knicks’ most prized young players a few years ago, with the Knicks’ front office refusing to include him in a deal for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell.

While several NBA teams would love to buy low on Grimes, he has not been an effective player this season. Entering NBA games today, Grimes had career lows in shooting (38.7 percent), Win Shares per 48 Minutes (.076) and three-point shooting (37.1 percent).

  • Quentin Grimes contract: $2.385 million salary (2024), $4.296 million salary (2024-’25), a restricted free agent in 2025

Grimes’ age and contract still make him an intriguing trade target for many NBA teams out of contention. Clubs like the Haws, Jazz, Grizzlies and Rockets could give him more playing time than he’s had in New York. While it’s unclear what the Knicks want for him, the front office clearly missed an opportunity to sell high on the young guard.
