One of the smaller impact trades of Wednesday’s deadline included the Miami Marlins sending pitchers Nick Anderson and Garrett Richards to the Tampa Bay Rays for Ryne Stanek and Jesus Sanchez.
One day after the deal, Anderson spoke to the media about how he found out he was headed to Tampa.
“We were just sitting in the clubhouse actually. Somebody said something because they saw something on Twitter,” Anderson noted.
Anderson was ultimately summoned into an office with Richards by Marlins bullpen coach Dean Treanor, who informed him of the trade.
We understand that social media has brought news to us in an instant. Even then, it’s somewhat disrespectful for a player to find out that he’s been traded through Twitter.
