New Orleans Saints star receives suspicious drug test from NFL after workout video

It seems that a workout video of New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas getting swole during the offseason might have drawn some suspicion from the NFL’s drug testing department.

The last three seasons have been quite frustrating for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas. After being taken with the 47th pick overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Ohio State star went on to have a fantastic start to his career and become one of the top pass catchers in the game.

He earned Pro Bowl honors in three of his first four seasons, including landing on two All-Pro teams in that time. However, an ankle injury three years ago has haunted him. Since 2020, the New Orleans Saints veteran has only played in just ten games, including only three last season as he continues to battle back from ankle surgery.

The plan is for him to be back in a Saints uniform in 2023 and try to reinvigorate his languishing career at 30. Unsurprisingly he is using the offseason to strengthen his body for the rigors of another NFL season and recently posted a video on social of him lifting weights and hulking out. However, it seems the video immediately drew the attention of the league.

After posting the video, Thomas revealed (via Dov Kleiman) that a member of the NFL reached out to inform him that he was “randomly” selected to take part in their offseason Performance Enhancing Substance program and needed to contact them ASAP for a urine test the next morning.

Surely, it all could just be a big coincidence and the NFL is doing its due diligence across the league to keep the sport clean, but it is a very big — and funny — coincidence for a drug test to occur right after a video of workout.
