The Washington Nationals on Tuesday claimed left-handed reliever Jake McGee off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.

To make room for McGee on the active roster, the Nationals designated outfielder Donovan Casey for assignment.

McGee, 36, was a combined 1-2 with a 7.00 ERA in 30 appearances for the San Francisco Giants and Brewers this season. McGee signed with the Brewers on July 23 after he was released by the Giants and had a 6.35 ERA in six appearances.

In 13 seasons with five teams, starting in 2010 with the Tampa Bay Rays, McGee is 32-27 with a 3.67 ERA in 638 relief appearances.

Casey, 26, has yet to make the major leagues since being drafted in 2017. He was one of four players traded to the Nationals last season in a deal that landed the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner and right-hander Max Scherzer.
