Minor league coach: Tim Tebow has the power to play in big leagues

Tim Tebow to the MLB this year? Why not

Tim Tebow has only played five games thus far in his minor league career with the Columbia Fireflies, the New York Mets Class A affiliate. But already, in that short amount of time, the former NFL quarterback has impressed the heck out of his coach, Jose Leger, who says Tebow has big-league power.

“He does have the power to play in the big leagues. No doubt about that,” Leger told TMZ Sports. “He’s the leader on the team already. He outworks anybody that we have out here.”

Leger also spoke in glowing terms about Tebow’s energy, that he shows up early every day with a positive attitude, works his butt off and has already established himself as a guy other players look up to for guidance. In the five games Tebow has played, he’s already hit two home runs (his first came on his first at-bat) and has five RBI.

However, as has been the case since he started playing baseball, he’s not exactly hitting all that often with just four hits in 20 at-bats, good for a .200 average. Clearly, he’s a work in progress.

Based on his coach’s impression, Tebow will at some point get an opportunity to take his talents to the big leagues. Based on how popular he still is, you have to imagine the Mets would love to see it happen, provided he was actually contributing positively on the field of play.
