Milwaukee Brewers With Eight Consecutive Wins, No Really

It might only be the second week in April, but the Milwaukee Brewers are the hottest team in baseball and are currently on an eight-game winning streak. This is not a typo…it’s actually happening. Fresh off a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Milwaukee boasts a MLB-best 9-2 record.

It has done so with stellar pitching, timely hitting and all-around great baseball. After giving up just two runs in six innings against Pittsburgh on Saturday, staff ace Yovani Gallardo now boasts a 0.96 ERA in three starts. Free-agent acquisition Matt Garza has been impressive as well. He has two quality starts in as many outings and has a .093 WHIP through the early part of the season.

No matter how much you want to focus on the stellar pitching, it’s the play of a few in the lineup that has Milwaukee off to such a hot start.

Carlos Gomez, who has five-tool potential, hit a lead-off homer on Saturday to get the party started for Milwaukee. He’s now batting .357 with four homers through 11 games. If Gomez is able to live up to this potential, he’s going to help a surprising Brewers lineup remain consistent throughout the season.

Veteran Aramis Ramirez leads all Brewers batters with a .383 average and 18 hits. Meanwhile, Jonathan Lucroy continues to prove he’s one of the best hitting catchers in all of baseball. He’s batting .357 with a team-high .426 on-base percentage.

While we can’t expect these players to keep up their current pace, it’s becoming quite obvious that the Brewers lineup will be among the best in the National League Central moving forward. Add a decent starting rotation and a bullpen that possesses tremendous upside and you have the makings for a surprise season in Milwaukee.

Sweep the defending World Series Champions on the road and win eight consecutive games, no matter where we are in the season, and we will have to take you seriously.
