High school basketball star Mikey Williams won big in the courtroom on Thursday when nine felony charges related to a shooting at his California home in April were reduced to a single misdemeanor.

The San Diego County District Attorney’s office outlined the plea agreement that bans Williams from possession of firearms for 10 years and requires behavioral therapy, gun safety and anger management classes in addition to 80 hours of community service. Upon satisfactory completion of those terms, Williams’ charges will be formally reduced to a single misdemeanor.

His status on the court at the University of Memphis is unclear.

Five weeks ago, Williams had three new felony counts added to his standing six felony charges levied stemming from what police allege was Williams shooting at a car carrying six people away from his residence in Jamul, Calif., on March 27.

He was initially arrested on five charges of assault with a weapon and one count of firing into an occupied vehicle. The three new charges were added Tuesday as a result of Oct. 10 testimony alleging that Williams made threats before firing a weapon, and that there were six individuals in the car, including an Uber driver, as opposed to five.

Williams faced up to 28 years in prison if convicted on all nine charges.

Williams has been free on bond since his April 13 arrest and had been attending online classes at Memphis.

The school said in September that Williams won’t be eligible to rejoin the team until his legal process is complete. He is listed on Memphis’ basketball roster online but does not have access to team facilities.

Williams was viewed as a top-50 recruit coming out of San Ysidro High School in San Diego.
