The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left knee contusion.

It was a part of a series of moves by the Angels, who also optioned right-hander James Hoyt to Triple-A Salt Lake and designated right-hander Ben Rowen for assignment. To fill roster voids, the Angels reinstated right-hander Mike Mayers (undisclosed) from the IL and recalled outfielders Juan Lagares and Taylor Ward from Salt Lake.

Rendon was placed on the IL for the second time this season after also missing time with a hamstring injury. In his second season with the Angels, Rendon is batting .276 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 15 games.

An All-Star in 2018, Rendon is a career .290 hitter with 148 home runs and 588 RBIs over nine seasons with the Washington Nationals and Angels.

Hoyt, 34, did not give up a run in two appearances for the Angels this season, while Rowen, 32, had a 5.56 ERA in eight relief appearances. Mayers, 29, was 1-1 with a 2.51 ERA in 14 relief appearances.

Lagares, 32, was hitless in seven at-bats with the Angels earlier this season. He was signed to a minor league deal in February after eight seasons with the Mets. Ward, 27, has not played in a major league game this season.
