Joel Embiid, fresh off Sunday night’s weird scene in which he sounded off against Philadelphia 76ers fans, shared an interesting quote on Instagram Monday, which resulted in Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler recruiting him from the comments section.
Embiid shared a picture of himself shushing the 76ers crowd and included the caption, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
As the crack sleuth team at Bleacher Report quickly discovered, one of the first people to comment was none other than former teammate Jimmy Butler, who wrote “I known a place where villains are welcome.”
Now, the NBA trade deadline has already come and gone, so it’s not like there’s a lot that can really happen here immediately.
But it is worth noting that the team has underperformed this year, and that Embiid seems to be perhaps not be getting the type of support he needs to succeed.
Furthermore, reports emerged Monday that other teams are preparing for the Sixers to trade Embiid, and we know that things can change in a hurry in this league. So it’s worth filing this interaction away for a later date.
