John Elway is leaving no doubt about his interest in potentially trading away the No. 5 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Given the fact that Elway and Co. signed free agent quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year deal this offseason, this isn’t a surprising declaration. In fact, Elway has been hinting he’s open to selling this pick for quite some time now.
The Broncos, much like the New York Giants, are sitting pretty at the top of the draft without a dire need for a quarterback. The New York Jets already made a big trade to move up to No. 3 overall recently, and nobody should be surprised if either the Broncos or the Giants (or both) end up trading down with teams desperate for a franchise passer.
So essentially, Elway is just daring another general manager to mortgage the future, supplying Denver with a hoard of picks, for the opportunity to land one.
