Carlos Alcaraz will return to No. 1 in the next world rankings when they are released, putting him in line to be the top seed at the French Open when play begins May 28.

Just by stepping onto the court on Saturday at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Alcaraz assured he would overtake Novak Djokovic at No. 1 when the rankings come out on May 22.

Last September, Alcaraz became the youngest No. 1 ever at age 19 and held the spot for 20 weeks. He finished 2022 in the top spot.

On Saturday, Alcaraz defeated fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas and 6-4, 6-1 at the Masters 1000 event.

Alcaraz is bidding for a third straight ATP Tour championship following victories in Barcelona and Madrid.

He heads to the French Open as one of the hottest players on your with an overall 30-2 mark on the season.

Presuming tournament organizers make Alcaraz the No. 1 seed in Paris, he will be the first player not named Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer or Andy Murray to gain the top seed at Roland Garros since Lleyton Hewitt in 2003.
