Green Bay Packers likely to release 3-time Pro Bowler this offseason

The Green Bay Packers have several decisions to make ahead of the new NFL league year opening next month. Green Bay finds itself a mere $7.84 million under the projected salary cap. It will have to make several moves in order to be considered players during NFL free agency.

One such move could be to release longtime left tackle David Bakhtiari. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Bakhtiari will be a likely salary cap casualty.

A move of this ilk would save Green Bay a whopping $21 million against the 2024 NFL salary cap. It makes perfect sence given that Bakhtiari missed all but one game a season ago with a knee injury. In fact, he’s played in all of 13 games over the past three seasons.

The Packers have youngster Rasheed Walker set to hold down the fort at left tackle in front of Jordan Love. The former seventh-round pick out of Penn State started 15 games as a sophomore this past season.

As for Bakhtari and his future, there is a darn good chance that he’ll land with the New York Jets. Joining his former teammate in that of Aaron Rodgers has always seemed likely. New York also needs to find itself a starting left tackle. This three-time Pro Bowler would make sense.
