Great Osobor, No. 16 Utah State thump Fresno State

Great Osobor scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, and No. 16 Utah State pulled away for an 83-62 win over Fresno State in a Mountain West Conference matchup Saturday in Logan, Utah.

Osobor shot 8-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Ian Martinez scored 14 points and Josh Uduje chipped in 12 off the bench for Utah State (17-2, 5-1).

Isaiah Pope scored 16 points to lead Fresno State (8-10, 1-4). Donavan Yap Jr. scored 12 points off the bench and Eduardo Andre finished with 11 points.

Utah State shot 55 percent (33 of 60) from the field. Fresno State shot 41.4 percent (24 of 58).

Fresno State opened the second half on a 10-1 run to pull within 41-37 with 16:45 to go. Xavier DuSell and Yap Jr. each made a 3-pointer during the run, and Pope added a jumper and a layup.

The Aggies answered with a 19-9 run to increase their lead to 60-46 with 8:50 left. Mason Falslev and Uduje made back-to-back layups to finish the run.

Utah State cruised the rest of the way. Javon Jackson made a layup off an assist from Martinez to give the Aggies a game-high 24-point lead at 77-53 with 3:04 to go.

Utah State led 40-27 at the half.

Osobor led all scorers with 18 points on 7-for-7 shooting at the break.

Andre had nine points on 4-for-8 shooting to pace Fresno State heading into halftime.

The score was even at 14 after Yap Jr. made a layup for Fresno State with 11:43 left in the first half.

Utah State followed with a 14-3 run to pull ahead 28-17 with 7:29 to go in the half. Martinez started the run with a four-point play on a 3-pointer and a free throw, and Osobor had a layup and a 3-pointer.

Osobor added a layup with 1:32 remaining to boost the Aggies’ lead to 13 points at halftime.
