Georgia’s generational tight end prospect Brock Bowers injures ankle

Even though Stetson Bennett garnered the national media’s attention back when he was QB, the Georgia Bulldogs offense is most feared when tight end Brock Bowers is heavily involved in the game plan.

Bowers is not your typical tight end in that he’s also given opportunities to rush the ball too, taking advantage of his otherworldly ability to break tackles in space. We saw the latest example of this in the second quarter when Bowers took an end-around at the 10-yard line to help set up a Bulldogs touchdown one play later. Tight ends are rarely projected to be top-ten picks, but Bowers is much different.

Yet, as great as Bowers is, he’s not indestructible. We learned this during the second quarter of Georgia’s matchup against Vanderbilt on Saturday when Bowers started limping before falling to the ground and punching the field in frustration. Clearly, something is bothering Bowers.

The Georgia medical staff quickly rushed to their star player’s assistance before helping Bowers back to the locker room for further evaluation. The severity of the injury is unknown.

After halftime Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart provided an update, indicating Bowers suffered an ankle sprain. But he’s headed for X-rays to get a better reading on the injury.

“He was good. He was in good spirits. He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain on the bottom part of his foot but he thinks he’ll be fine. They’re gonna go x-ray it and check it out.”

Bowers is in the midst of a career year at Georgia, averaging 90.8 yards per game, putting him on track for a new personal best in receiving yards. With 545 yards and four touchdowns entering play today, his absence would be a big loss to the Georgia offense.
