Chicago Fire FC defender Kendall Burks signed a two-year contract with a club option for the 2024 season on Friday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the team for Burks, who was selected by the Fire with the 11th overall pick of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

“Kendall is a talented young player who we believe has the tools to compete for playing time in multiple positions during his rookie season,” Fire sporting director Georg Heitz said. “We’re very pleased that he has decided to begin his professional career in Chicago, despite having options to play overseas, and look forward to seeing his continued growth within our environment.”

Burks, 22, began his collegiate career at Cal State Bakersfield (2018-19) before transferring to Washington (2020-21). He notched two assists in 36 matches (30 starts) over two seasons with the Roadrunners before collecting five goals and four assists in 38 matches (37 starts) with the Huskies.
