Kevin Padlo hit a two-run homer to cap off an eight-run first inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers demolished the San Diego Padres 14-1 in the first game of MLB spring training on Thursday in Peoria, Ariz.

All 14 of the Dodgers’ runs were scored in just two innings, as they plated six more in the sixth. Twelve players had one hit apiece, including two-run, ground-rule doubles by Teoscar Hernandez and Chris Owings during the first-inning barrage.

Prized Dodgers offseason acquisition Shohei Ohtani didn’t play.

Gavin Stone (1-0) pitched the first inning, throwing one strikeout without allowing a baserunner to pick up the win. Eight more pitchers took turns for one inning apiece, including Stephen Gonsalves, who had three strikeouts in the sixth.

Padres starter Joe Musgrove (0-1) was chased four batters into the game without recording an out. He gave up four earned runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter. San Diego used 12 pitchers in the game.

Jake Cronenworth took Alex Vesia deep in the fourth inning for the Padres’ only run.
