Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig headed to DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Yasiel Puig for the time being. As was expected, the outfielder is headed to the disabled list.

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reported that Andrew Tolles has been recalled to replace Puig. Puig exited Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels early with a strained right intercostal oblique muscle.

This is Puig’s second trip to the DL this season. Overall, he’s hit .265/.325/.462 with 11 home runs on the season.

But Puig has been especially strong since returning from his first DL stint in May. Since returning from that injury, Puig has hit .303/.365/.575 and has hit all 11 of his home runs. Not coincidentally, the Dodgers are also 32-20 games where he’s played since returning.

So, this will certainly be a storm for Los Angeles to weather until Puig gets back.
