Armed robbers broke into the St. Louis Cardinals complex in the Dominican Republic on Friday morning and stole money, cell phones, jewelry and baseball equipment, the team said.

The theft occurred between 12:30 and 4 am. local time at the baseball academy in Bosa Chica.

A report from the Dominican Republic said players were taken out of their rooms and coaches were held at gunpoint, adding armed robberies recently have occurred at the facilities of the Cleveland Guardians and Miami Marlins.

“This was scary on many fronts,” said John Mozeliak, the Cardinals’ president of baseball operations. “Our players and staff were shaken up but not harmed. No one was injured, and we will reassess our security provisions immediately.”

Local authorities are investigating the incident.
