Braves’ rookie SS Johan Camargo injures self running on to the field

This something we don’t see every day around the baseball world. Atlanta Braves rookie shortstop Johan Camargo will miss upwards of two weeks after suffering a hyperextended knee prior to Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The news is not that Camargo injured his knee. Instead, it’s all about how he suffered said injury.

That’s just all sorts of unfortunate. As you can see in the video above, Camargo apparently tripped over the first base chalk line as he was making his way to shortstop prior to the top of the first inning.

Braves players initially found the situation somewhat hilarious before realizing the 23-year-old Camargo suffered what looked to be a serious injury.

Camargo entered Tuesday’s action hitting .292 with three homers and 19 RBI in his debut campaign. He figures to be Atlanta’s shortstop of the future unless top prospect Ozzie Albies plays short instead of second at the Major League level.

In any event, this is a really unfortunate setback for a youngster who was having a solid rookie season for the rebuilding Braves.
