BMX star Pat Casey died after crashing during a motorcycle stunt earlier this week in Ramona, Calif. He was 29.

Casey was attempting a jump on a ramp at Slayground Motocross Park on Tuesday afternoon when he missed his landing and crashed, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber. The motorcycle appeared to fall on Casey.

CPR efforts by bystanders and emergency responders who later arrived were unsuccessful.

Casey won a gold medal in men’s BMX Dirt at the 2021 Summer X Games. It was one of three championship-level gold medals he won.

“We are deeply saddened by Pat Casey’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, parents and siblings,” X Games said on its Instagram account. “A true legend in the action sports community, Pat will always be a member of the X Games family and an inspiration to everyone’s life he touched.”
