Houston Astros reliever Kendall Graveman is expected to miss the 2024 season after undergoing shoulder surgery last week, the team announced Tuesday.

The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 2.42 ERA in 23 bullpen appearances for the Astros in 2023 after arriving in a July 28 trade from the Chicago White Sox.

Graveman experienced soreness in his right shoulder that kept him from playing in the postseason. After rest and rehab in the offseason, he started a flat-ground throwing program to prepare for spring training, but the soreness returned and ultimately required surgery last week.

Graveman started his professional career with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014 and had stints with the Oakland A’s (2015-18) and Seattle Mariners (2020-21), but his success has risen in recent years.

As one of the top relievers in the American League since 2021, he has a 2.74 ERA with 24 saves in 186 combined relief appearances with the Mariners, White Sox and Astros.
