49ers star LB Kwon Alexander could return if team makes NFC Championship Game

The best team in the NFC could get a huge boost in the playoffs, as San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander may be able to return if the team advances.

Speaking to reporters Monday after his team clinched the No. 1 seed in a dramatic win Sunday night over the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared an update on the linebacker’s status.

Alexander went on injured reserve early in November, but he’s been coming on strong in his recovery from a torn pectoral muscle.

Prior to his injury, he was living up to the hefty contract the team signed him to in free agency (with plays like this), and the 49ers featured the best defense in football.

If Alexander is able to come back, assuming the 49ers do advance to the NFC Championship Game, then he’d be another key piece once again. In eight starts this year, he tallied 34 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and 0.5 sacks.
