The Cincinnati Reds came into Sunday’s doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers desperately needing for the ball to bounce their way. That literally happened in the seventh inning, during a wild moment that helped preserve the team’s win.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Cincinnati’s bullpen nearly blew it again turning a 4-0 lead into a one-run advantage in the final inning. Closer Raisel Iglesias stepped to the mound in an unusual spot, going for the save in the seventh inning.

After striking out Austin Romine, the Reds caught the bounce they haven’t had all season. When Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones drilled a ball off the first baseman’s leg, it flew right into Kyle Farmer’s glove.

Cincinnati caught one more break, thanks to Iglesias’ incredible athleticism, with the closer making the acrobatic dive to snag the ball with his foot on the bag for the second out.

The unbelievable moment lit up the clubhouse and provided the team with a reason to celebrate. After making the incredible play, Iglesias returned to the mound then struck out Niko Goodrum to record the save and seal the win.

Sometimes all it takes is one lucky bounce to snap a team out of its cold streak. Fortunately for the Reds, they have the chance to build off the momentum immediately with the second game of the doubleheader.
