Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has tested positive for COVID-19 and could potentially miss the NBA restart in Orlando.
The news was broke by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In a statement shared by Dinwiddie to The Athletic, he shared that he had tested negative multiple times and had “been diligent about protecting myself and others from COVID-19 by following all designated protocol and quarantining.”
Unfortunately, he has tested positive now and is experiencing symptoms.

“Over the past few months, I have been diligent about protecting myself and others from COVID-19 by following all designated protocol and quarantining,” Dinwiddie told The Athletic. “I was ready and prepared to rejoin my teammates as we were to be an early entry team in the resumed season. I flew private to return to New York, passed multiple COVID-19 tests over my first several days in New York and was able to participate in a couple practices within the first week.
“Originally, we were supposed to be one of the teams to enter into the Orlando bubble early, but training camp got switched back to New York and unfortunately I am now positive. Given that I have experienced symptoms, including fever and chest tightness, it is unclear on whether or not I’ll be able to participate in Orlando.
“Hindsight is 20/20.”
Per Charania, “Dinwiddie says he plans to remain in self-quarantine and re-evaluate after 14 days.”

Dinwiddie is an integral player for the team. He appeared in 64 games before the NBA suspended its season in March, putting up nice stats in his seventh season as a pro: Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
With Kyrie Irving threatening to “give up everything” for social justice reform issues these days, it’s pretty clear the Nets were counting on Dinwiddie to have a huge role in the restart in Orlando. This is even more significant considering another Nets player has already opted out of the restart in Orlando.
If he’s unable to play, it will have a big-time impact on the 30-34 Nets, who are currently the seven seed in the Eastern Conference.
