Former Bears All-Pro Roosevelt Taylor passes away

Bears 2020 NFL Draft

The Chicago Bears’ organization has already been hit with tragedy this month. They are now dealing with another big loss.

Former Bears All-Pro safety Roosevelt Taylor has passed away at the age of 82, the team announced on Friday.

Known as Rosey, Taylor made his debut with the Bears back in 1961. It did not take the Grambling State product too much time to make his impact known. Taylor earned All-Pro honors in his third season, recording a league-high nine interceptions in the process.

The Louisiana native played eight seasons with the Bears, earning two Pro Bowl nods and winning an NFL title under the great George Halas.

Taylor played splendidly for two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers after being traded for the all-time great Howard Mudd. He was also a starting free safety for the Washington Redskins in their Super Bowl VII loss to the Miami Dolphins.

He’s considered one of the top-50 players in Bears history.

Cause of death is not yet known.
