Carmelo Anthony a candidate to return to the Knicks in free agency?

Future Hall of Fame forward Carmelo Anthony was enjoying a career resurrection with the Portland Trail Blazers prior to the 2019-20 season being suspended back in March.

It’s not yet known whether Anthony, 36, will play another game in a Blazers uniform after signing a mere one-year contract. That’s all going to depend on whether the Blazers themselves return to action once the NBA season returns some time later this summer.

If not, there’s a chance he will return to the Big Apple with the New York Knicks. SNY’s Ian Begley points to Anthony as a real possibility for the Knicks as they attempt to find another scorer to go with youngster R.J. Barrett.

New Knicks President Leon Rose might very well look to bring back the familiar face as his front office takes shape. New York had shown interest in Anthony last summer before failing to land the combination of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. At that point, they decided to move on.

Anthony, a 10-time All-Star, is averaging 15.3 points on 37% shooting from distance in 50 games for Portland this season. He starred for the Knicks from 2010-17.
