Former Dallas Cowboys player and current scout Josh Brent was recently arrested for public intoxication in an incident that resulted in police tasing him for being uncooperative.
Brent served 180 days of prison time for a intoxicated manslaughter stemming from a 2012 wreck that took the life of one of his longtime friend and Cowboys teammates, Jerry Brown.
His latest incident had been deemed to violate the terms of his parole, which dictated he not commit new offenses and that he not possess, drink or buy alcohol. An arrest warrant was issued afterward.
However, a judge has withdrawn that arrest warrant, per DallasNews.com. Per the report, “court records don’t show why the judge recalled the warrant.” A bit of news from Calvin Watkins of The Athletic shines a light on why it was.
Watkins reports Brent “tested clean for drugs and alcohol despite the initial report from Coppell PD saying he was intoxicated.” Additionally, the behavior exhibited by Brent was due to what Watkins reports was “a mental breakdown” that Brent is undergoing treatment for.
