Brewers place SP Jimmy Nelson on injured list

Less than a month after he returned to the mound at Miller Park after missing more than a year with arm trouble, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson returned to the injured list on Friday.

Tests revealed Nelson is suffering from built-up fluid in his right elbow and will force him on to the 10-day injured list.

The 30-year-old made his first MLB appearance in over a year on June 6, but he never could seem to figure out his command. He allowed 13 runs with 18 hits and 14 walks across 14 innings and quickly found himself out of the rotation.

Milwaukee once hoped Nelson could be the answer to its recent issues in the rotation and find the form that made him a breakout star in 2017 with a 3.49 ERA. Instead, he only made the club’s rotation worse and could now be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Addressing the rotation will be a major emphasis for Milwaukee’s front office in July as the club looks to try and stay in playoff contention.
