Baseball coach on leave after setting field on fire

A high school baseball coach apparently really wanted to play a game after the team’s field was tarnished with dampness.

How bad? The unnamed Clearfield High School baseball coach in Utah legitimately poured 15-to-20 gallons of gasoline on the field and set it on fire. It doesn’t take a genius to realize how this all ended up.

The coach has been placed on administrative leave and his team is forced to play its games on the road until the contamination of the field is remedied.

“According to the Davis County Health Department, a concerned parent notified them of a strong gasoline smell near the baseball field at Clearfield High School,” Fox 13 in Utah reported.

If you were hoping said coach had set the field afire to argue balls and strikes, we’re sorry. It’s not as dramatic as that.

Even then, someone might want this coach to take a high school science class. This isn’t what we’d call controlled burning. Pretty much the exact opposite.

No word yet on the future status of the coach or the field he set ablaze. But it’s time to stop playing with matches.
