Ed Orgeron compares Devin White to Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis

Devin White will be considered one of the best linebackers in the 2019 NFL draft class, but LSU coach Ed Orgeron has extremely high praise for the junior.

Shea Dixon of 247Sports notes Orgeron compared White to Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis and six-time All-Pro Patrick Willis.

That may come across as outrageous acclaim, but Orgeron is a highly respected defensive coach who is well-traveled in the college ranks.

From 1988-92, he served as the defensive line coach at Miami and watched Lewis dominate before heading to the NFL. Orgeron was the head coach at Ole Miss during Willis’ last two seasons, 2005-06.

Orgeron knows elite talent when he sees it.

Although White hasn’t publicly announced whether he’ll declare for the 2019 NFL draft, he’s expected to turn pro. After recording 248 tackles with 26 for loss over the last two seasons, he has nothing left to prove at this level.

Orgeron has officially set a lofty bar for White to reach, but his combination of speed and aggressiveness will be coveted in the draft.
