Report: Mets’ Jose Bautista traded to Phillies

Philles

The Philadelphia Phillies have further bolstered their bench, reportedly acquiring outfielder Jose Bautista from the New York Mets.

Bautista, who was claimed off trade waivers by Philadelphia on Monday, will soon join the Phillies and provide power off the bench.

The move is similar to the acquisition of Justin Bour, both moves added a power bat off the bench for Philadelphia to deploy in a potential postseason run.

This marks the third N.L. East team Bautista will have played for this season. He originally signed with the Atlanta Braves but was released after he posted a .142/.250/.343 slash line in 12 games.

While he was more productive in New York with nine home runs and a .351 OBP in 82 games, he carries a .597 OPS in 119 at-bats since the All-Star Break.

Bautista will likely see less playing time going forward with the Phillies, but he now has a shot to compete for a spot in the postseason.
