The Arizona Diamondbacks have made a trade to upgrade their pitching staff, acquiring pitcher Matt Andriese from the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects Michael Perez and Brian Shaffer.

Andriese has made 27 appearances for the Rays in 2018, with all but four coming out of the bullpen. He’s likely to assume the same role with Arizona.

Overall, he’s posted a 4.07 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and an 8.9 K/9 rate.

The acquisition of Perez likely frees Tampa up to trade All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos. While Perez has yet to reach the majors, he’s put up a solid .284/.342/.417 slash line with six home runs for Triple-A Reno in 2018.
