Mike Leach meeting with political leaders in Cambodia

Mike Leach

Curiosity got to Mike Leach. We’ve all heard the interviews. We all know just how awesome of a personality the Washington State head football coach is.

Now, those in Cambodia are getting a first-hand look.

For some reason, Leach decided to join a few Washington State lawmakers for a trip to the Southeast Asia nation for some talks. Really.

Yes, that’s Leach with a who’s who of political leaders, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen included.

According to The Spokesman-Review, this isn’t a state-sanctioned trip. Instead, it’s all about Leach and Washington State attempting to build an educational relationship with the constitutional monarchy.

The Washington State Athletic Department also made sure to note that Leach is paying for the trip out of pocket, indicating “he’s someone who loves to discover new things. He loves to travel,” Cougar official Bill Stevens said.

On a serious note, it is important for the state of Washington and the university to separate itself from this trip. Under the leadership of Sen, free media itself has been cracked down on. It remains a volatile nation in the region. Hence, the two entities going out of their way to note that they don’t have an involvement in the trip.

Unrelated. We just can’t wait for Leach to offer us a 40-minute explanation of this trip and what it meant to him once he returns to the states. That’s going to be an absolute blast.
