Bill O’Brien: Deshaun Watson ‘on schedule’ for training camp

Deshaun Watson

A torn right ACL ended Deshaun Watson’s promising rookie season, but the Houston Texans quarterback might not allow the injury to further prevent him from taking the field in 2018.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien appeared on Good Morning Football and said Watson is on track to participate in training camp, according to Will Selva of NFL Network.

Watson appeared in seven games and accounted for 21 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions, helping Houston to three of its four 2017 season wins. However, the ACL injury occurred during practice before the team’s Week 9 contest.

Training camp will arrive in mid-July, and Watson will likely be limited by the staff. Recovery from an ACL tear typically takes 10-12 months, and that timeline approaches the beginning of the 2018 campaign.

But if Watson is able to participate in training camp without much pain, his status for the season opener will be encouraging.
