Thursday is a great day to be Kevin Sumlin

Texas A&M chose to move on from Kevin Sumlin late in the 2017 season, but the decision certainly isn’t coming cheap. His entire buyout is due Thursday.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the now-Arizona head coach is due $10.4 million from his former employer.

Sumlin spent six seasons in College Station, posting a 51-26 record while leading the Aggies to bowl eligibility all six years. However, Texas A&M continually struggled to beat each of Alabama, Auburn and LSU, so Sumlin never won the SEC West.

The university fired him Nov. 26 and brought in Jimbo Fisher from Florida State.

But after Arizona parted ways with Rich Rodriguez, Sumlin — who reportedly interviewed with Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders — headed to the Pac-12 school.

Arizona will pay Sumlin $2 million this year, but a $10.4 million check from Texas A&M is a great way to start 2018.
