Neck surgery will end football career of Miami CB Malek Young

The football career of University of Miami cornerback Malek Young is over.

After suffering a neck injury in the Orange Bowl, Young will undergo neck surgery which he confirmed will end his career.

“After discussions with my family and the UM medical staff we have determined that my football career should come to an end,” Young’s statement said, per Zach Barnett of College Football Talk. “I look forward to getting healthy, working towards my degree and continuing to support my teammates, as I know they will continue to support me.”

Young also posted the following message on Twitter, shortly after the news broke.

Young recorded 43 tackles in 2017. He also picked of two passes and as Barnett noted, was the first player to receive Miami’s turnover chain.
