Broncos head coach calls out Trevor Siemian over performance

Quarterback Trevor Siemian and the Denver Broncos were highly favored to win at home against the 0-5 New York Giants this past Sunday night. That’s when things went extremely off course. Denver lost by the score of 23-10 with Siemian putting up a dud performance.

Head coach Vance Joseph has since called out his young quarterback.

“His decision-making has been half and half in my opinion,” Joseph said, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post. “We have some big plays that we’ve missed, and he’s made some nice plays under pressure. It’s half and half. It hasn’t been perfect. I won’t lie and tell you that it’s perfect. He understands that he has to play better in spots, we have to protect better in spots and we have to run the football better. That’s our formula.”

Instead of the Giants falling behind on Sunday, the Broncos offense did exactly that. As a result, Siemian attempted a season-high 50 passes. Unfortunately, he completed just 29 of his attempts for 376 yards with one touchdown and two picks.

On top of a poor passing game, running back C.J. Anderson could not get anything going on the ground. He carried the ball just nine times and tallied a mere 17 yards. To add to the team’s woes, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders suffered a game-ending ankle injury. He has already been ruled out for the next game, according to Broncos beat writer Mike Klis.

As a whole, the Broncos have not put more than 16 points on the board in their last three games. In Week 7, the Broncos will need to step up their offensive efforts. Siemian and Co. travel to play a Los Angeles Chargers team that is enjoying a two-game winning streak.

Currently, the Broncos sit at 3-2 and trail the Kansas City Chiefs by two wins in the AFC West.
