Bears suffer another major blow at wide receiver

Bears

At this point, the New York Giants and Chicago Bears could form an All-Star team at wide receiver will all the injuries they’ve suffered at that position.

While New York’s injury woes have been well documented, the Bears continue to deal with a ton of injuries at receiver themselves.

Both Cameron Meredith and Kevin White, the team’s two projected starters, are already lost for the season to injury. Now comes this report that free agent acquisition Markus Wheaton will be lost for 4-6 weeks after suffering a tear in his groin. Ouch.

Signed to a two-year, $11 million contract in the offseason, Wheaton has caught a grand total of one pass for four yards on nine targets. Despite his absolutely abysmal performance, the Bears simply need bodies at receiver for rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

In his NFL debut, last week against the Minnesota Vikings, Trubisky completed six total passes to wide receivers. Through the first five games of the season, Chicago’s running back tandem of Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard have combined for 33 percent of the team’s receptions.

Meanwhile, their wide receivers have accounted for 41 percent of Bears’ receptions. That’s most definitely not a good split for a team that heads into Week 6 with just one win on the season.
