Houston Astros release statement in wake of Hurricane Harvey

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros are scheduled to host the Texas Rangers for a three-game series on Tuesday, but that’s all up in the air right now.

Much of Houston is dealing with catastrophic flooding due to Hurricane Harvey. The images pouring in via social media and news outlets are staggering. Entire streets, freeways and neighborhoods are under water, with more rain on the way.

As such, the Astros sent out a statement on Sunday to say they are monitoring the situation and will give an update on Monday.

The Astros aren’t the only pro sports team that is being affected by the devastation in Houston.

The Houston Texans are currently facing a situation in which they are stranded outside of Houston after playing an NFL game on Saturday against the New Orleans Saints. They’ll be practicing at Dallas Cowboys facilities in the immediate future because they cannot return home at this time.

J.J. Watt, defensive superstar and a guy who always looks out for his fans, is working to raise awareness about how much help is needed. He sent out a video on Sunday to his Twitter and Instagram followers, voicing his frustration about the flooding and asking them to donate money to help those in need (here’s a link if you would like to donate).

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are being displaced and endangered by the flooding across Texas.
