Colts play-by-play man Bob Lamey upset about dropping F-bomb during broadcast

NFL free agent predictions

When the Indianapolis Colts finally sealed their 26-22 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Indianapolis play-by-play man Bob Lamey made a huge mistake while on the air.

“The game is over. The game is finally f—ing over,” Lamey said, following a Chargers’ fumble that locked up the win. The unedited version can be heard here.

While he certainly wasn’t the only person to have that sentiment or even say those exact words, he was the only person to say them on the air.

That’s something that can’t be done. Lamey is well aware of that, and a day after the win he expressed serious regret.

“You’re darned straight I am [beating myself up],” Lamey said, per Bob Kravitz, WTHR. “I keep thinking, ‘This is not me.’ My wife was saying, ‘Bob, you don’t say that.’ But I did and I feel absolutely awful about it. I take it very hard because it hurts my reputation, the reputation of the Colts and if there were kids listening, I mean, it’s just awful. After the game, Matt Conti [the Colts assistant public relations director] told me about it, and I was shocked. Then I listened to it, and it was kind of garbled – but yeah, I said it. The tape doesn’t lie. I just wish I remember having said it.”

There are certainly fines from the FCC that could stem from this. But beyond that, this is a forgivable mistake.

The Colts are off to an awful start this year, and at times on Sunday, Week 3 seemed like another likely loss. Lamey definitely used a word he shouldn’t have, but that’s something plenty of us can relate to.
