Mike Piazza honors 9/11 victims in HOF speech

Mike Piazza became emotional several times during his Hall of Fame induction speech on Sunday. One such time was when the subject of September 11 came up. Piazza got choked up remembering the day itself and remembering those who lost their lives.

Obviously the subject of 9/11 is an incredibly emotional one for anyone who was around to remember it. Given that Piazza was a member of the New York Mets at the time, high emotions are all the more natural.

In his Hall of Fame career, Piazza hit 427 home runs. None, however, was as memorable as the one he hit on September 21, 2001, which was the first baseball game in New York City after the attacks. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Piazza belted a two-run home run to put the Mets up 3-2, which stood as the game’s final score.
